Study of gypsum composites with fine solid aggregates at elevated temperatures

Abstract The structure and behaviour of two gypsum composites after exposition to elevated temperatures were investigated. silica sand fine basalt aggregate used as solid fillers. changes in composition at from 50 1,000°C investigated by scanning electron microscopy X-ray diffraction together with the size strength samples their pore distribution. matrix changed significantly both composites, while particles not changed. It was found that even if is considered less suitable filler high because its volume changes, performed better than highest temperatures, shrinkage compensated increase aggregate. final change 3.5% composite 6.8% basalt. residual compressive about 9.4%. No cracks appeared no spalling observed.
